CV: I am Head of the Smart Networks and Services Research Unit at FBK. I am the creator of 5G-EmPOWER the first Network Operating System for Mobile Networks which is now used in several EU H2020 Projects and Research Institutions worldwide. I am coordinating the H2020 5G-CARMEN project which is performing the first world-wide cross-border trials for connected vehicles. I am or have been involved in several 5G-PPP projects and I have directly generated more than 3M€ in competitive funding. I have 2 granted patents on network virtualization and I have published more than 100 papers in internationally refereed journals and conferences. I serve in the TPC/OC of leading conferences in the networking field, including IEEE IM/NOMS, IEEE NFV-SDN, IEEE NetSoft, and IEEE CNSM. I am associate editor for the Wiley International Journal of Network Management, the Springer Wireless Networks journal, and the IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management. I am a member of the ACM and a Senior Member of the IEEE.
Research: My research interests currently revolve around network optimization and in general system research problems in networked and distributed systems. My current field of applications are deep edge computing, 6G networks, and human-driven networking.
I have a number of openings for Master theses in the Smart Network and Services domain with a particular focus on beyond 5G and 6G networks, distributed and decentralized edge computing, and observable artificial intelligenc for network management.
All theses require good programming skills (C/Python), the capability to work independently, and the understanding that your supervisor will show you a direction but will not give you turn-by-turn instructions.
If you think you match those requirements feel free to drop me an email.
