Hi! I'm Roberto Riggio, Head of the Wireless and Networked Systems (WiN) Research Unit at FBK.

My research interests include control and coordination of wireless and mobile networks, active network slicing in 5G systems, and distributed and lightweight management and orchestration of network services.

I am the creator of 5G-EmPOWER the first Network Operating System for Mobile Networks. 5G-EmPOWER is currenly used in several EU H2020 Projects and Research Institutions worldwide.

I am or have been involved in several 5G-PPP projects and I have directly generated more than 3M€ in competitive funding.

I received several awards including: the IEEE INFOCOM 2013 Best Demo Award, the IEEE ManFI 2015 Best Paper Award, and the IEEE CNSM 2015 Best Paper Award.

One of my former PhD students (Dr. Davit Harutyunyan) also received the IEEE CNSM 2017 Best Student Paper Award and the IEEE Netsoft 2019 Best Student Paper Award

I have 2 granted patents on network virtualization and I have published more than 100 papers in internationally refereed journals and conferences.

I serve in the TPC/OC of leading conferences in the networking field, including IEEE IM/NOMS, IEEE NFV-SDN, IEEE NetSoft, and IEEE CNSM.

I am associate editor for the Wiley International Journal of Network Management, the Springer Wireless Networks journal, and the IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management.

I am the co-founder of the IEEE workshop on Software Defined 5G Networks (IEEE Soft5G) and of the IEEE Workshop on Management of 5G Networks (IEEE 5GMan).

I am a member of the ACM and a Senior Member of the IEEE.
